About the Tokamachi City Museum

The Tokamachi City Museum collects, houses and displays a selection of cultural assets from Tokamachi City pertaining to the region's history and folk culture. The museum also conducts research, and coordinates education and promotional activities.

1976

Completion of construction of the Cultural Property Storage Room

1979

Tokamachi City Museum grand opening
The Tokamachi City Museum "Tomo no Kai" was established.

1986

Opening of the Botanical Garden

1988

Opening of the "ISEKI-PARK"

1989

Completion of the chijimi storage room and extension to the museum building

1990

The Cultural Assets Division was established

1991

Opening of the Archaeology Exhibition Room

1994

Completion of the permanent exhibition space

1998

Installation of the Flame-style Pottery exhibition corner

2004

The museum suffers damages from the Chuetsu Earthquake

2007

The museum suffers damages from the Chuetsu Offshore Earthquake

2009

The Restored House at the Archaeological Site was repaired

2012

The museum suffers damages from the Northern Nagano Earthquake

2014

The Archaeological Site's roof was thatched and repaired
